Fastned
Beesd - The Netherlands
System Integration
Onshore
Completed

The roll-out of charging infrastructure in the Netherlands is increasingly held back by grid congestion. To continue offering electric vehicle drivers fast and reliable charging, even under these conditions, battery storage was integrated into Fastned’s site in Beesd for the first time.

Ventolines managed the entire permitting process for the realisation of Fastned’s first battery storage system. We secured both the building permit and the custom permit, reviewed the design against applicable safety guidelines, and drew up the required safety plans.
We also supported the client in tendering and evaluating battery suppliers. The permits were granted in 2025, after which the battery storage system was successfully installed.
The 400 kWh battery can step in to meet peak demand at the charging station, reducing its dependence on the constraints of the electricity grid. This means charging speeds remain consistent for users, even when the grid connection alone is not sufficient.
With this project, Fastned has taken a meaningful step towards smart charging and future-proofing its charging infrastructure. The addition of a battery ensures that the station continues to operate reliably and at full speed, even during periods of grid congestion. This pilot has now been successfully completed and offers valuable lessons for other sites.
